Oral BENADRYL® Allergy products are meant to be ingested (swallowed). They come in tablet and liquid gel, and temporarily relieve the symptoms of upper respiratory allergies. Topical BENADRYL® itch relief products are only to be applied directly to the skin.
Can Benadryl be absorbed through the skin?
Avoid applying antihistamine, such as Benadryl cream, spray, or gel, or Caladryl lotion, to the skin. These products may further irritate your skin. Also, it is more difficult to control the dosage of medicine that is absorbed through the skin.
